- Hmmm...possibly related to diet? I know not all southerners eat massive amounts of fried foods, but obesity rates are higher in southern states, too, and science has shown a link between obesity and sleep problems (particularly, sleep apnea).

- "[Responding] to conflict or frustration with slapping or spanking" describes a loss of control and abuse, not a measured physical consequence for misbehavior. I've got a feeling that researchers define "spanking" differently than many who practice it as a child-rearing tool.

- The problem I have with such generalizations is that, looking at someone from a distance, you don't know what their circumstance is. I've known people who ended up on public assistance after losing good jobs. One had just bought a new car the year before.

- I had my reservations about Mr. Gingrich before, but his food stamp comments really turned me off to him. Why? I was laid off from my job in September and spent nearly four months without work.

- It may seem odd to you, but some people are better able to handle stress than others. I'm often able to stay calm (and eat, and sleep) in situations where others cannot imagine doing so.

My wife and I own a speciality shoe store in Everett, WA. We cater to the person that is in need of shoes - outside the 'normal' curve. (ie: too wide, too narrow, etc. ) We have a shop as well to do repairs and modifications to shoes as well. (ie: shoe lifts, add Velcro straps, etc).

If your really interested in learning shoe / leather repair - find a business that makes foot orthotics or states that they have a C-Ped (Certified Pedoritist) working there - odds are VERY good that they would have an opening for a person willing to learn and work in the business.

It's a good business. And one thing your feel each night (beside very tired) - you'll feel appreciated when you can fix a customers problem or make their day a little better.
